The actual Springfield Model 1861 was a Minie-type rifled musket which was used by the US Army during the Civil War. It got its name from the city it was originally manufactured and cost about $20.00. It had a 40 inch barrel, fired a .58 caliber Minie ball and had a range of about 200 to 300 yards.
