The shotguns of the Western frontier used black powder. When the commercial hunters went after the Buffalo herds in the 1870s they used guns like the .44-90 Sharp and the .44-90 Remington. Technology was still relatively basic. The theory was to use the maximum powder charge on the maximum caliber bullet. Once the American Bison was hunted commercially for its hide, the vast herds were destroyed in less then 10 years.

I ordered this cabinet for my husband\'s collection of antique shotguns. I\'ll admit that I was hesitant to order a piece of furniture over the internet (clothes and books are one thing, but furniture? I held my breath.) I also ordered it about a week before Christmas, fully expecting to wrap up a picture of the cainet for him to open on Christmas Day. Well, not only was I thrilled with the product when it arrived, but I also had to get more wrapping paper, since it got here on December 23rd. I was SHOCKED. We had an easy time assembling the cabinet, and it now resides proudly in our library. We get so many compliments on this piece, and they are all well-deserved. The felt linings that hold the barrels are nicely done, and the storage space beneath is great. It\'s truly a handsome piece, and well worth the money.
